How We Make Money: Advertiser Disclosure

The short version

  • Right now, this site has no paid partnerships: no affiliate links, no sponsored posts and no paid placements.
  • We plan to join credit card affiliate programs. Once we do, we may earn a commission if you apply for a card through a link on this site.
  • That commission never costs you anything, and it does not decide which cards we recommend or how we rank them.

This page explains how Best Canadian Credit Cards is funded, how affiliate links work, and what we do to keep our recommendations honest. We will update it whenever anything changes.

How this site is funded today

Best Canadian Credit Cards is an independent site. It is not owned by a bank, card issuer or financial company. At the moment it earns no money from the cards it writes about, and no company has paid to be mentioned, reviewed or ranked.

How affiliate links will work

Many credit card websites are funded through affiliate programs, and we plan to join some. Here is how that works:

1
You click a link
A link on our site takes you to the card issuer’s own application page.
2
You apply with the issuer
The issuer handles your application and decides whether to approve you.
3
We may be paid
If you’re approved, the issuer or an affiliate network may pay us a commission.

You pay nothing extra. The card’s fees, interest rates, rewards and welcome offer are the same whether or not you use our link. In some cases an issuer may offer a different welcome bonus through different channels; when that happens, we will say so.

What partners will never control

  • Rankings and “best” picks. Cards are ranked on the value they give readers, not on what they pay us.
  • Which cards we cover. We will include and recommend cards we have no partnership with when they are the better choice.
  • What we say. Partners do not write, review or approve our articles, and we point out the downsides of every card, including annual fees, spending caps and income requirements.
  • The numbers. Earn rates, fees and examples are worked out the same way for every card.

How we compare cards

When we compare cards, we look at what matters to the person using them:

  • Earn rates in the categories people actually spend on, such as groceries, gas, dining and recurring bills
  • The annual fee, and how much you need to spend for the card to beat a no-fee option
  • The real value of points, worked out in cents per point
  • Welcome bonuses and the minimum spend needed to earn them
  • Extra costs such as foreign transaction fees
  • Income requirements and where the card is accepted

How we will label partner links

Once we have affiliate partners, every article that contains affiliate links will carry a short note near the top saying so, with a link back to this page. This page will also be updated to describe those partnerships in general terms.

Things to keep in mind

  • We do not cover every credit card available in Canada.
  • Card terms, fees, interest rates and offers change often. Always confirm the details on the issuer’s website before you apply.
  • Our articles are general information, not financial advice. The right card depends on your own spending, credit and goals.
