No, WestJet points have no expiry date, as long as your account stays active. Your account stays active if you earn, redeem, transfer or convert points at least once every 24 months. If it goes inactive, WestJet can deactivate it, and all its points and vouchers expire. Here’s how the rule works and how to keep your points.

Could you lose your WestJet points?

  • BestYou earn, redeem, transfer or convert points at least once every 24 months: your account stays active and your points have no expiry date.
  • OkayYou use a WestJet RBC Mastercard: every purchase earns points, which keeps your account active. There is no separate cardholder exemption, so keep using the card.
  • Check firstNo activity for 24 months: your account goes inactive and WestJet can deactivate it. Points and vouchers on a deactivated account expire.

Tip: Bonus points from a promotion can have their own expiry date. Check the offer terms when you earn them.

The 24-month rule

WestJet Rewards’ terms say WestJet points have no expiry date and stay in your account if the account stays active. The account stays active if you accrue, redeem, transfer or convert WestJet points within the past 24 months. If you do none of those for 24 months, the account becomes inactive.

WestJet can then deactivate the inactive account and reassign its WestJet Rewards ID. If an account is deactivated, all WestJet points and vouchers in it expire. Where the law requires, WestJet sends notice 30 to 60 days before deactivating an account.

Promotional points can expire sooner

WestJet sometimes gives promotional or bonus points with their own expiry date. The terms say those points follow the rules of the promotion, not the 24-month rule. If you earn bonus points from an offer, check its terms and use them in time.

If your account was deactivated

WestJet’s terms say that, except for fraud, it may let members reactivate a deactivated account within 12 months, which can include paying a fee. It’s at WestJet’s discretion, so contact WestJet as soon as you notice.

Other ways points can be lost

  • Ending your membership forfeits all the points in your account right away.
  • When a member dies, WestJet closes the account and the points can be redeemed by the member’s estate. Points not claimed within 12 months of the account closing are cancelled.
  • Fraudulent activity can get an account deactivated at any time.

Using your points

On a WestJet flight’s base fare, 100 points take $1 off, and the smallest redemption is 2,500 points for $25 off a booking. A balance of 8,000 points is worth about $80 on a base fare. See what WestJet points are worth for taxes and fees, vacations and examples.
