Air Miles Is Now Blue Rewards: What Your Points Are Worth (+ Calculator)

Published October 20, 2026 · Updated October 20, 2026 · By the Best Canadian Credit Cards Editorial Team

Air Miles is now Blue Rewards. BMO replaced the AIR MILES program with Blue Rewards in June 2026. Your miles were converted to Blue Points automatically, your collector number is now your Member number, and BMO Air Miles credit cards now earn Blue Points. The key number: 1,500 Blue Points = $10 when you redeem in store or for eGift cards, so each point is worth about 0.67¢. Here’s what changed and what your points are worth.

Air Miles to Blue Rewards: the short version

  • BestYou don’t need to do anything: BMO says your miles converted to Blue Points “with no loss in value”, and your card and Member number stay the same.
  • OkayEach Blue Point is worth about 0.67¢: 1,500 points = $10 in store or on eGift cards. 10,000 points is about $67.
  • Check firstThe BMO Blue Rewards cards pay off mostly at partners: outside partners and four bonus categories they earn 0.33% (no-fee card) or 0.67% (World Elite) back, less than many flat cash back cards.

Tip: Already have points? Use them at a partner store or on eGift cards, where BMO publishes the rate. Other redemptions have their own rates.

What happened to Air Miles?

BMO announced in January 2026 that AIR MILES would become Blue Rewards, and launched the new program on June 2, 2026. airmiles.ca now sends you to bluerewards.ca. Here’s what changed for collectors:

  • Miles became Blue Points. BMO says existing Reward Miles converted automatically, with no loss of value.
  • Cash and Dream Miles are gone. They were combined into one balance you can use for any reward, from eGift cards to travel.
  • Same number, same card. Your AIR MILES collector number is now your Blue Rewards Member number. BMO says no action is needed.
  • BMO Air Miles credit cards keep working with the same card number, and now earn Blue Points.
  • The AIR MILES Chequing Account is now the Blue Rewards Chequing Account.
  • New partners joined, including Dollarama, Instacart, Porter Airlines, Accor hotels such as Fairmont, and MTY restaurants such as Thai Express and Mr. Sub.

Blue Rewards’ conversion chart shows what your old miles became. It works out to about 16 Blue Points per mile, the same dollar value as before:

How to earn Blue Points

  • Shop at partners. Show your Blue Rewards Member Card in store or online. BMO’s 10x partner list includes Dollarama, Instacart, Pharmasave, Irving, Global Pet Foods, Timber Mart, Budget, National Car Rental, Fairmont, Sofitel, Novotel, Thai Express, Mr. Sub, Sushi Shop, Ben & Florentine, Baton Rouge and the NSLC. Partners vary by region and can change.
  • Book through Blue Rewards Travel. It’s powered by Expedia, for flights, hotels and car rentals.
  • Pay with a BMO Blue Rewards credit card. You earn card points and partner points on the same purchase when you also show your Member Card.
  • Use a BMO chequing account. Eligible BMO debit cards earn 1 point per $2 on grocery, gas, EV charging and wholesale purchases, up to $300 of spending a month. The Blue Rewards Chequing Account earns more.

The BMO Blue Rewards credit cards

These replaced the BMO AIR MILES cards. Both earn more at partners and in four everyday categories: groceries, gas and EV charging, wholesale clubs and liquor stores.

The World Elite welcome offer comes in three steps: 45,000 points after $5,000 in spending in the first 110 days, 20,000 more after $10,000 in 180 days, and 35,000 more after $20,000 in the first year. BMO values the full 100,000 at up to $665. Its emergency medical insurance covers trips of up to 15 days.

On spending outside the partners and the four categories, both cards earn less than a flat 1% to 2% cash back card. If most of your spending is general, compare our best no-fee credit cards and the Wealthsimple card, which pays 2% on everything.

How to use your Blue Points

  • In store at participating partners, to take money off your purchase.
  • eGift cards (formerly eVouchers) for stores and restaurants.
  • Travel through Blue Rewards Travel. You can cover a whole trip, including taxes and fees (not cruises or pay-at-property fees), or use any number of points to lower the price.
  • Merchandise from a catalogue of over 3,000 rewards.

In-store and eGift card redemptions get the published 1,500 = $10 rate. For anything else, divide the dollar price by the points needed to see if you’re getting about 0.67¢ a point or better.

Do Blue Points expire?

Not while your account is active. If you don’t earn or redeem any points for 24 months in a row, Blue Rewards can cancel the points in your account. Those 24 months include time before the switch from Air Miles.

  • Blue Rewards says it will try to email you up to 60 days before your account goes dormant, so keep your email address up to date.
  • Quebec residents get a written notice 30 to 60 days before points are cancelled.
  • Earning or redeeming points within 24 months keeps your account active.
  • Points from a BMO card aren’t moved to your Blue Rewards account while the card account isn’t in good standing or after it’s closed.
