Key takeaways

  • $1 in CT Money = $1 off at Canadian Tire, SportChek, Mark’s, L’Équipeur, Party City, Pro Hockey Life and canadiantire.ca.
  • The base rate is 0.4% of your pre-tax purchase for Triangle Rewards members. That’s 40¢ of CT Money on a $100 purchase.
  • The Triangle Mastercards earn 4% at Canadian Tire family stores, which Triangle calls 10x the base rate. Neither card has an annual fee.
  • Bonus offers multiply the base rate. A 20x offer on a $100 pre-tax purchase earns $8 in CT Money.
  • You can’t pay for gas with CT Money, but you can earn it at Gas+ and Petro-Canada.

These are Triangle’s published rates. The Triangle Mastercard and Triangle World Elite Mastercard both have no annual fee. The World Elite card needs a personal income of $80,000 or a household income of $150,000.

CT Money is earned on the pre-tax amount, after any CT Money you redeem on that purchase. Walmart, Walmart Superstore and Costco don’t count as grocery stores. Triangle says the Gas+ rate for members can change and may vary by location.

How bonus offers work (10x, 20x, 30x)

Canadian Tire often runs offers like “20x the CT Money” on certain products or weekends. Every multiplier is based on the 0.4% base rate, so each x adds 0.4%:

OfferRateCT Money on $100 before tax
No bonus (Triangle Rewards card)0.4%$0.40
10x (everyday rate on the Triangle Mastercards)4%$4
20x8%$8
30x12%$12
40x16%$16

For the credit cards, Triangle counts the card’s everyday 10x as part of the offer. A 30x card offer is “10x everyday plus a 20x bonus,” not 30x on top of 10x. You need to be a Triangle Rewards member to get bonus CT Money, and it’s awarded once per transaction. Paper Canadian Tire Money doesn’t earn bonus offers.

What CT Money is worth

Each dollar of CT Money takes a dollar off your purchase, so its value doesn’t change with what you buy. That makes it simpler than travel points: there’s no chart to study and no “best” item to redeem on.

What changes is how fast you earn it. On a $100 purchase at Canadian Tire, you’d get $0.40 back with only a Triangle Rewards card and $4 with either Triangle Mastercard. To compare it with other cards, our cash back calculator works the same way: each 1% back is $1 for every $100 you spend.

Where you can and can’t use it

You can redeem CT Money in store at Canadian Tire, SportChek, Mark’s, L’Équipeur, Party City and Pro Hockey Life, and online at canadiantire.ca. You can’t use it at Gas+ or Petro-Canada, on tires and wheels, on gift cards or prepaid cards, or on shipping. Our guide on how to use Canadian Tire Money covers each store, online orders and paper money step by step.

If you collect Petro-Points too, you can turn them into CT Money at 1,000 points per $1. See our Petro-Points to CT Money converter.
