CIBC Aventura Points Value (2026): What Your Points Are Worth + Calculator

Published October 17, 2026 · Updated October 18, 2026 · By the Best Canadian Credit Cards Editorial Team

CIBC Aventura points are worth the most on flights booked with CIBC’s Airline Rewards Chart. A round-trip economy ticket covers up to a set price for a fixed range of points. At the chart’s maximum prices, that works out to about 1.6 to 4 cents per point. Cheaper tickets give you less per point. Use the calculator to see what your points are worth on a real flight.

Key takeaways

  • The Airline Rewards Chart is the main way to get value. Each round-trip economy flight costs a set range of points and covers a ticket up to a maximum price before taxes.
  • At the maximum price, points are worth about 1.6¢ to 4¢ each. The cheaper your ticket, the lower the value.
  • Taxes and fees are extra. Pay them with your card, or with points through Flexible Travel Rewards.
  • You need at least 80% of the points. CIBC charges 3¢ for each missing point, up to 20% of the total.
  • Gift cards are worth much less: most $25 gift cards cost 3,500 points, about 0.71¢ a point. Paying your balance with points is lower still: 4,000 points for $25, about 0.63¢.

What CIBC Aventura points are worth on flights

CIBC’s Airline Rewards Chart sets a points range and a maximum ticket price (before taxes) for each type of round-trip economy flight. The value per point column is our math: the maximum ticket price divided by the points.

Flight (round trip, economy)PointsMax ticket priceValue per point at max price
Short-haul: Canada or U.S., within or next to your province or state10,000 to 20,000$4002¢ to 4¢
Long-haul: across Canada or the U.S. (not Hawaii or Alaska)25,000 to 35,000$8002.29¢ to 3.2¢
Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, Central America, Caribbean40,000 to 60,000$1,0001.67¢ to 2.5¢
Europe (select destinations)50,000 to 70,000$1,3001.86¢ to 2.6¢
Rest of the world (select destinations)75,000 to 125,000$2,0001.6¢ to 2.67¢

How many points CIBC asks for within each range depends on the airline fare. The chart can change without notice, so check the current version in the CIBC Rewards Centre before you book.

How to work out your value per point

  1. Search your flight in the CIBC Rewards Centre and note the points it asks for.
  2. Find the ticket price before taxes. If it’s above the chart’s maximum, use the maximum: you pay the rest.
  3. Divide the price by the points, then multiply by 100. $700 ÷ 30,000 points × 100 = 2.33¢ per point.

If the value is low, think about paying cash for that ticket and saving your points for a pricier one. Our cents per point calculator works for any program.

A worked example

Say you have 60,000 points and want a round trip across Canada. The ticket is $700 before taxes, and CIBC asks for 30,000 points.

  • Value per point: $700 ÷ 30,000 = 2.33¢.
  • Your 60,000 points cover 2 of these round trips.
  • You pay the taxes on each ticket with your card or with more points.

The same 30,000 points on an $800 ticket (the long-haul maximum) would be worth 2.67¢ each. On a $400 ticket, only 1.33¢. Cheap flights stretch your points less.

Taxes, fees and the 80% rule

  • Taxes aren’t in the chart. The maximum ticket price is before taxes and other charges. You can charge them to your card or use points through Flexible Travel Rewards, which can cover up to 100% of taxes and charges.
  • The 80% rule: you must use at least 80% of the points a flight needs. Up to 20% can be a points shortfall, which CIBC charges at 3¢ per point.
  • Book through CIBC. The chart applies to flights booked through the CIBC Rewards Centre or by calling 1-888-232-5656.

When we checked inside the CIBC Rewards portal in October 2026, most $25 digital gift cards (such as Gap, Bass Pro Shops, DoorDash and H&M) cost 3,500 points, a $50 Airbnb card cost 7,000 points and Costco Shop Cards cost 14,000 points for $100 or 28,000 for $200 (all the same rate), and a Home Hardware $25 card cost 3,700 points. Using Payment with Points to pay down your balance cost 4,000 points per $25. Both are a fraction of what the same points can be worth on a flight. CIBC’s terms say it sets the points-to-dollar rate for these options and can change it. Points can’t be exchanged for cash except through Payment with Points and Shopping with Points.

Merchandise is priced item by item. When we checked in October 2026, a Chefman waffle maker cost 9,300 points, a Black & Decker 20-volt drill 14,700, an Ember Mug2 28,200 and a Dyson AM07 tower fan 62,400. To see if an item is worth it, take the store price plus tax (CIBC’s points price includes taxes and shipping), divide by the points, and multiply by 100. That gives you cents per point. If it comes out under about 0.71¢, you’d get more from a gift card at 3,500 points per $25, if the portal has one for a store that sells the item.

Store prices are before tax, checked October 17, 2026. CIBC’s points price includes tax and shipping, so adding your provincial sales tax (5% to 15%) raises each value a little. Even then, most items land close to gift cards (about 0.71¢), and all of them are far below a flight booked near the chart’s maximum price. Store prices change often, so check the current price before you redeem.

How to get more value from Aventura points

  • Aim for tickets near the chart’s maximum price. A $790 long-haul ticket gives you far more per point than a $300 one.
  • Use cash for cheap short flights. Save points for trips where the fare is close to the maximum.
  • Pay taxes with your card if you’d rather keep points for the next flight.
  • Redeem before you close your card. If you close your account, you have 60 days to use your points. If CIBC closes it, points are forfeited right away.

Do CIBC Aventura points expire?

CIBC’s Aventura terms don’t set a general expiry date, but you can lose points. If you close your account, you have 60 days to redeem them. If CIBC closes your account, the points are forfeited immediately. Points also can’t be transferred to another person.

How we checked: The Airline Rewards Chart, the 80% rule, the 3¢ shortfall charge, tax rules, other redemption options, the Aeroplan conversion rule and forfeiture rules come from CIBC’s Aventura flight chart page and Aventura Rewards Program terms. Card fees and earn rates come from CIBC’s card pages, and gift card, merchandise and Payment with Points prices from the CIBC Rewards portal.
