You can redeem PC Optimum points at Shoppers Drug Mart, Loblaws, No Frills, Real Canadian Superstore and other participating stores, in blocks of 10,000 points for $10, up to $500 at a time. At Esso, points work differently: 4,000 points take 10¢ off a litre of fuel, and 10,000 points get you a car wash.
Where you can redeem PC Optimum points
| Where | How it works |
|---|---|
| Shoppers Drug Mart, Pharmaprix and Beauty Boutique | 10,000 points = $10, up to $500 per transaction |
| Loblaws, No Frills, Real Canadian Superstore and other Loblaw grocery stores | 10,000 points = $10, up to $500 per transaction |
| Delivery orders from participating stores | 10,000 points = $10 (not on delivery charges) |
| Esso (participating stations) | 4,000 points = 10¢ off a litre, up to 40 litres. 10,000 points = any car wash. One redemption a day. |
| Mobil | Can’t redeem (you can still earn at select stations) |
The rules that matter
- Minimum 10,000 points. You redeem in blocks of 10,000 points, each worth $10.
- Maximum $500 per transaction.
- Extra value is lost. If you redeem 40,000 points ($40) on a $37 purchase, the extra $3 is forfeited, so redeem only what you need.
- Taxes: some stores may not let you use points to pay the tax on a purchase.
- Esso: fuel savings max out at 40 litres, so redeeming 4,000 points on a smaller fill-up gets you less than $4.
What you can’t buy with points
PC Optimum’s terms say points can’t be earned or redeemed on:
- Tobacco, lottery tickets and alcohol
- Deposits
- Gift cards, prepaid cards and phone cards
- Transit tickets and passes, event tickets and post office transactions
- Passport photos and cash back
- Delivery charges
Pharmacy items are also excluded in certain provinces. PC Optimum says the rules for prescriptions and other health products vary by province and by prescription plan, so ask your pharmacy.
How to get more for your points
PC Optimum runs “spend your points” events. Its own example is 10,000 points for $15 of free stuff, 50% more than the usual $10. If you don’t need your points right away, waiting for one of these events gets you more.
Our PC Optimum points calculator shows what your balance is worth at the normal rate and during an event like that.
How to check your points balance
Sign in to the PC Optimum app or website, or to your PC Financial online account or app if you have a PC Financial card. Your receipt also shows points, but PC Optimum says the number on a receipt may not match your current balance.
Do PC Optimum points expire?
No. But PC Optimum can close your account without notice if you don’t earn or redeem points at least once every 2 years and don’t have an open PC Financial product. To be safe, earn or redeem something at least once a year.
Can you transfer or combine points?
PC Optimum may allow you to transfer points to another member, at its discretion. Households can no longer be created. The exception is a PC Financial card with additional cardholders: they share one account, up to 5 members.
